In the early hours of this morning a Honda drove into the shop right next to Chilli Bar in the Plumstead / Southfield area. 6 people died. The five occupants of the vehicle and the car guard of Chilli Bar as he was hit before they rammed into the shop. According to the owner of the famous Chilli Bar, Sonny Naidoo, the venue was closing at the time of the accident at 04h15. The vehicle was speeding.
According to DJ and radio presenter Brandon Leigh who was at Chilli Bar at the time of the accident, he called paramedics to bring “Everything” as he put it. The scene was extremely gruesome and out of respect we won’t go into detail. Brandon is a paramedic and helped out on the scene. “Normally patrons stand outside on the pavement at Chilli Bar and for some odd reason, no one was on the pavement this morning” said Leigh. The car guard was affectionately known as “Rasta” by everyone. According to a someone on the scene, the engine came through the dashboard and the cone filter was lying on top of one of the occupants, this just goes to show the impact and speed it must all have happened at.
Our condolences go out to the families of the deceased.
Please be careful on the roads.

“To all concerned, at 04h15 this morning a car traveling with 5 people came from De Waal Road onto Victoria Road, over Southfield bridge. Some how or the other the car lost control, the car just missed the Chilli Bar building. Tragically it hit Rasta, our car guard and continued into the building next to the Chilli Bar where all five passed on, on impact. We were very fortunate to try and give those involved immediate medical attention as paramedics were on the scene. This is a sad day for all that suffered the loss. I would like to thank the local community, our local police team, paramedic team (Brandon Leigh) and the patrons of The Chilli Bar for their support at time difficult time. Our condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones this morning”
