One of the most exciting and in my opinion most innovative, I-can-wear-it-everyday trends of 2013 is the Heel-Less Wedge. I like it most because it’s different! Very different!

Do you want to do it yourself? Well you can!

I have naturally curly hair but I prefer wearing my hair straight as it’s easily managed. Truthfully,  I miss curls! Voluminous tresses look healthier and has so much more dimension.

So now let’s turn your straightening tool into a curling wand! Many of you are familiar with “ghd” curls and have paid stylist  up to R500 to achieve your desired look and now I’m going to show you how you can do it yourself.

Here’s what you’ll need:

So let’s be a bit positive about Rihanna since all other media are only highlighting the negatives of this singer especially with regards to her personal life and her controversial, rekindled love affair with beau Chris Brown.

Rihanna is an accomplished artist in the music industry. She rocks the entertainment industry not only with her music but with her fashion sense of style too, so it’s basically about time she comes out with her own clothing line to follow the likes of other singers turned fashion designers such as Gwen Stefani and Jennifer Lopez and many others

The affordable and wearable Spring collection, Rihanna for River Island, is a collaborative effort between the singer, Adam Selman and Mel Ottenberg of River Island after she approached them a year ago. It is one of the first 4 collections this year meaning there will be a Summer, Autumn and Winter collection coming too (yay!). It includes everything from shoes to shorts, dresses to bags and of course her signature crop tops to channel your inner rude girl. Rihanna wants to keep her music and fashion line separate, however. you’ll find a little touch of Rihanna with the Rs on buttons.

Bit about her:

Dubbed Jade “Stilleto” Abbott by my very own mother, you can kind of get an idea of what I’m addicted to ;)
A secret no one knows about me: I have your other sock, bwahahahaha (evil laugh).
One thing I can’t live without? The internet! – I would die.
Love – Marshmallow scented air freshener
Peace – …of mind
Happiness – my eyelash curler and Rum and Raisin chocoloate.

As Autumn and Winter approaches we all need to know what the season’s trend is. Well I have it! As it’s all about keeping warm this has translated in to the themed colour for the season. Plum and Burgunday. These are the warm shades that match well with the greys, blacks and browns that everyone wears during the cold months as it retains heat (a little science lesson for you).

These colours have been worn by the likes of Blake Lively and transcends over all age groups, where you will even find Jessica Lange rocking the new fashion trend and keeping in style.

Quickly, a warm welcome to my friend Nicole, one of a few fashion bloggers to baydu.co.za :)

On asking someone to describe her they said

“Nicole is a Social media and Digital marketing enthusiast. Lover of fashion ; shoes and cosmetics ,but a firm believer in the gift of inner beauty” Yep, I think that about sums it up ;)

Say hello to Nicole and here’s her first piece, have a read and enjoy ladies…

Women on the go say hello to my new secret weapon-  Butterfly twists!

If you love your heels, boots, stilettos and wedges you’ll know just how much of a sacrifice it truly is to rock those babies. Achy feet, bunions and sore calves are just the beginning of a list of woes and let’s get real sometimes our favourites are exactly idle for the Woman on the go.

We all love fashion and want to be stylish at most times but daily life can hinder the effort, try taking the bus with a pair of nine inch heels ;) so in the search for a sassy comfortable alternative I stumbled upon Butterfly Twists.

A beautiful collection of ballerina flats, flops and get this… Boots that fold up. Yes they fold up to fit comfortable in your bag! Not only are they innovation but fashionable as well and come in a range of designs.

Easily purchased online and comes in the cutest bag for storage!

Go on, get your feet fluttering

Now let’s just get a few things straight…this is by no means a pass to haul out your old baggy camo cargo pants or head to the nearest hunting store for a head-to-toe camo make over.

Camo is a huge emerging trend across both ladies wear and mens wear. The difference between what we traditionally view camo as and what it is today is in the silhouette and how you dress it.

A key item in camo would be a rocking military styled jacket paired with an unexpected piece like a chiffon or lace dress. Another awesome new shape for camo is a slim fit cargo, emphasis on the word slim!

And yes, camo is not a huge hit with everyone. If you aren’t quite ready to jump into your camo kit perhaps start with smaller items like a cool peak cap, scarf or a pair of shoe laces.

There’s definitely room for a little camo in everyone’s wardrobe.

We all know her, love her and secretly wish we could be her the gorgeous Jessica Alba.

I’ve chosen her for my style crush piece because of her understated and probably often underestimated sense of style. She really knows what works for her and what she feels most comfortable in. There’s something really intriguing about her effortless casual dress, slouchy knits, ripped denims ,chunky scarves and shades; cute printed dresses and military boots whatever the combination she rocks it out!

Her red carpet style is sleek and timeless, with easy lines and feminine touches Jessica can go from tomboy to Hollywood royalty without missing a beat.

I’m crushing!

Jade ;)

I’m feeling in a particularly feminine mood lately and have been drooling over beautiful flowing vintage dresses, soft hues of colour, and most of all lace. Lace dresses, lace shorts, lace trims, lace bags, lace everything! I love its versatility and effortlessness. Lace can be worn with totally contrast fabrications like leather and denim to create more of a modern street feel because of the unlikely combinations or staying true to its simplicity in a slim fitting dress or paired with a chiffon shirt and lace short. The choice is yours, if you’ve never tried wearing lace because you may feel it looks too old or frumpy play around with what works best for you and always mix your pieces to create interest and texture. Below are a few examples which show lace in a modern way.

As many of you are aware, it’s nearing the time of the Holy month of Ramadan (The Fast).

I’ve never fasted properly before; I tried joining my friends in high school but never really stuck it out. This year I’ve mentally prepared myself for a full month of fasting and sticking to the correct eating times. I’m super excited! So keeping with the theme of this special month it got me thinking about this week’s post.

Many female followers of Islam where hijab (head scarf), as a sign of modesty and in some cases empowerment and freedom. This got me looking at head scarves as a current trend in fashion, with Eastern and Tribal influences being prominent , the head scarf has become very much part of ‘the look’. It varies from a 50’s flirty pin up style to more relaxed 70’s vibe to an authentic tribal head piece.

I personally think it’s such a beautiful and strong statement for woman to make. You can really let your personality shine through in the colours, prints and styles in which you can wear it.

I’ve attached a YouTube link on a tutorial I found (and used) on ways to wear a head scarf.
It’s really easy once you get the hang out it!

Pantone Name Tangerine Tango The Colour of 2012

As I’m sure many of you trend followers already know Pantone has named Tangerine Tango as the colour for 2012. In case you aren’t aware Pantone is a standardized colour matching system, utilizing the Pantone numbering system for identifying colours. This means that globally we can all be working with the exact same colours without having to be in direct contact with each other.

Tangerine Tango is not just limited to fashion, it flows into make-up, nail polish, wall colour, home décor you name it! Tangerine tango has quite an exotic feel, what I love about the colour is that it looks amazing on all skin types and is such a vibrant colour to accessorise with! Even if you’re not mad about it you can interpret it to suit your palette. Think soft peach or coral, still within the orange family but tweaked to what works for you!

A tip: try wearing Tangerine with Cobalt Blue, perfect combination!
