Julius Malema’s former allies do not want to be associated with his new political formation, the Sowetan newspaper reported on Wednesday.
Ayanda Matiti, chairman of the ANC Youth League in the Eastern Cape, told the Sowetan that Malema’s move amounted to political prostitution.
“Economic freedom is not a progeny or an entitlement to any other person, but a resolution of a congress which Malema presided over when he was still president [of the ANCYL],” Matiti was quoted by the Sowetan.
He said extracting the resolution and defining it outside the framework of the ANCYL was “tantamount to prostitution”.
Malema’s best friend from his home province of Limpopo, Jossey Buthane, could not directly say whether he supported the expelled ANCYL leader in his intention to form a political party, the Sowetan reported.
“Julius Malema is my friend-cum-brother, and I am a member of the ANC,” Buthane told the newspaper.
Malema is unfazed by not getting support from his former allies in the league in his new political formation.
“That’s to be expected, we wish them well,” Malema responded in a text message to Sapa on Wednesday.

Durban – A South African security guard has been arrested in Mauritius after anti-smuggling authorities acted on information that he had swallowed 71 pellets of heroin worth almost R2 million.
Hendrick Gouws, 42, of Cape Town, was arrested less than 24 hours after another South African, Juric Johannes Botha, was sentenced to 33 years imprisonment in Mauritius for drug trafficking. He was arrested in 2009.
Two South African drug mules were also arrested in Argentina last week, bringing the total of South Africans arrested for drug-related crimes overseas to 17 since the beginning of the year.
Gouws, who had allegedly swallowed more than 500g of heroin, was arrested on Friday by the Mauritian Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU) at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, said Patricia Gerber, director of Locked Up, an organisation that assists South Africans incarcerated abroad.
She said Gouws had been interrogated and two Mauritians, who were allegedly expected to take delivery of the drugs, were also arrested.
Gerber said Gouws had been profiled by the ADSU when he left Cape Town for Mauritius.

Johannesburg – Claims that the British government had spied on South African officials and diplomats attending a G20 summit are of “great concern” and the government has called for a probe into the allegations.
Clayson Monyela, spokesman for the Department of International Relations and Co-operation, said on Monday the government had “noted with concern” the UK Guardian newspaper reports.
“We do not yet have the full benefit of details reported on, but in principle we would condemn the abuse of privacy and basic human rights, particularly if it emanates from those who claim to be democrats,” he said.
“We have solid, strong and cordial relations with the UK and will call on their government to investigate this matter fully with a view to take strong and visible action against any perpetrators.”
The DA said it would ask Parliament’s intelligence committee to investigate what it called an apparent major security breach that allegedly allowed Britain to penetrate government computer networks and access documents ahead of the 2009 G20 summit meeting in London.
Interim President Kgalema Motlanthe led South Africa’s delegation to the April 2, 2009 summit, supported by then Finance Minister Trevor Manuel and several senior Treasury officials.

Springbok captain Jean de Villiers is in doubt for Saturday’s final match of the Castle Lager Incoming Series against Samoa at Loftus Versfeld in Pretoria.
De Villiers injured his right sterno-clavicular joint and second rib early in last weekend’s victory over Scotland in Nelspruit.
“Jean was able to continue playing but was in some discomfort after the game,” said Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts. “He could not train on Monday and we will reassess him in the next few days before making a final call on his availability to face Samoa.”
Apart from the injuries to De Villiers and loose forward Arno Botha, who has been ruled out of rugby for the rest of the season with a serious knee ligament injury, there were only a few more bumps and bruises from the Scotland match.
Pierre Spies and Jannie du Plessis both sustained lacerations to the face, while Eben Etzebeth complained of mild discomfort in his AC joint.
These three players, as well Willem Alberts, did not take part in the full training session on Monday.
“Willem is returning from a side strain and his workload during the early part of the week will be managed, but at this stage he’s looking good for a possible return this weekend,” said Roberts.
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer said no risks will be taken with any player who is not 100% fit to play.
“We have a very good medical team and will see how Jean and Willem react to treatment this week before making a final call on their availability for Saturday’s match agains

Johannesburg – Bafana Bafana coach Gordon Igesund says his charges could not have done more to beat Ethiopia, with their 2014 World Cup hopes now reliant on disciplinary procedures against the group leaders.
Bafana lost 2-1 to Ethiopia in Addis Ababa on Sunday after Bernard Parker took the lead for the South Africans in the first period, before the hosts equalised just before the break.
Parker went from hero to villain in the 70th minute, when his headed clearance of an Ethiopian free kick went horribly wrong as the ball rocketed into the top corner of the net for an own-goal, giving Ethiopia victory.
“Anybody watching the game will know that South Africa played with their hearts and gave everything they had,” Igesund said.
“We went for it and we tried to get the equaliser but, at the end of the day, Ethiopia won the game.
“Having said that, we couldn’t do more than we did. We took the game to them in all the departments.”
While Ethiopia drew five points clear at the top of Group A, seemingly securing their place in the third and final round of African qualifying, Fifa announced later Sunday the door might still be open for Bafana.
The global governing body said Ethiopia were alleged to have fielded an ineligible player in their 2-1 victory over Botswana on June 8, and disciplinary proceedings had been opened.
If Ethiopia were found guilty, they could lose their three points from that match, which could then be given to Botswana.

Expelled ANC Youth League president Julius Malema and Sports Minister Fikile Mbalula during the league's 66th anniversary rally in Polokwane in 2010. Picture: Bongiwe Mchunu
Julius Malema’s erstwhile friends – including Limpopo premier Cassel Mathale and Minister of Sport and Recreation Fikile Mbalula – have vehemently distanced themselves from his new party initiative, with the latter saying his comrade is immature, reckless and committing political suicide.
In an interview with The Sunday Independent last week, Mbalula said Malema lacks political education and is impatient.
Mbalula said there had been speculation that he was the brains behind Malema’s party, given their close friendship.
“As a cadre, being trained by the ANC, forming a political party out of the ANC is political suicide. It is out of anger and not necessity… Being disgruntled about individuals in the ANC cannot lead to the formation of a political party… I have no intention of joining anything,” he said, describing Malema’s new initiative as “political adventurism”.
“He is my friend but this is where I draw the line. And I will remind him that, friendship aside, it is my duty to defend the ANC.
“I was almost expelled before Polokwane (ANC national conference) and accepted guidance and the most helpful thing for me was political education… Julius’s generation had not had that opportunity to get political education, they lack patience… I told him that he is committing political suicide,” he said.
Mbalula, who is indirectly responsible for Malema’s rise in the ANC Youth League, said he still believed “Julius can bounce back as a solid leader, only if he can remain patient”.
“But what he is doing is reckless and erratic and speaks to a lack of political maturity.”

This story from timeslive.co.za:
Tina Joemat-Pettersson, the minster of agriculture, forestry and fisheries, is being investigated for allegedly taking a kickback for arranging the purchase of an R18-million game farm for disadvantaged women.
Joemat-Pettersson, who was an MEC in the Northern Cape at the time, was allegedly paid R100000 for her efforts in closing the purchase of Sunset Game Lodge. The farm, outside Douglas, 100km west of Kimberley, was bought by the state for more than 100 women from the province.
The money, according to an affidavit by Monica du Toit, the lawyer who facilitated the 2006 deal, was paid into Joemat-Pettersson’s private Nedbank account. Du Toit describes the payment as a reward for the minister’s moeite (efforts).
This week it emerged that Joemat-Pettersson and Du Toit are the focus of an investigation by the Asset Forfeiture Unit and the Special Investigating Unit (SIU).
The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations (the Hawks) has also joined the case.
